Interdependence Literacy Project
Teaching Children and Youth About Our Connectedness
What is Interdependence Literacy?
Our lives are fundamentally interconnected. Nearly everything that sustains us comes to us in some way through other people—their efforts, their creativity, their historical contributions. Interdependence literacy cultivates an understanding of this essential reality across multiple disciplines—including biology, history, agricultural science, economics, arts, language and literature, and cultural studies. Learning in this domain fosters the personal recognition that each of us, like all living beings, relies on a vast network of mutually dependent relationships for our survival and success. This knowledge might help us become a bit more aware of our own impact on the world and more caring toward ourselves and others.
